About

Researchers in the Adang laboratory investigate the action of Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) insecticidal proteins. These proteins, called Cry proteins, are widely used in biopesticides and plants to control pest insects including Lepidoptera (caterpillars) and Coleoptera (beetles). We also investigate Bt Cry proteins that are active against Diptera (mosquitoes) that vector important human diseases including yellow fever, West nile fever and malaria. Because the insecticidal Cry proteins act on the midgut of larvae, our research focuses on the biochemistry of insect midgut.
