Outstanding honorees recognized at 67th CAES Alumni Association Awards banquet

Each year, the University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences Alumni Association honors outstanding alumni at the CAES Alumni Association Awards and Georgia Agricultural Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

This year’s celebrated alumni and inductees represent a broad range of service in academics, Extension,  government and industry. 

About the awards

The Young Alumni Achievement Award is presented to alumni under 41 who have achieved excellence in their chosen field and/or in their community. 

The Alumni Award of Excellence recognizes alumni who have achieved excellence in their chosen field and/or in their community.

The Georgia Agricultural Hall of Fame recognizes individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to agriculture and agribusiness industries in Georgia. Not pictured: Georgia Agricultural Hall of Fame inductee Raybon Anderson of Statesboro, Georgia, is the founder of Bulloch Fertilizer Company and Anderson’s General Store and president of Raybon Anderson Farms Inc.

Young Alumni Achievement Award honorees

Jessie Turk Bland (BSA – Animal Science, ’10) is the manager of promotions and marketing at the Georgia Peanut Commission and director of advertising for the Southeastern Peanut Farmer magazine. 

Chad Paulk (BSA – Animal Science, ’09) is an associate professor of feed science and management in the Department of Grain Science and Industry at Kansas State University.

Tyson Strickland (BSA – Animal Science, ’11) is the founder and owner of Custom Livestock Solutions, a multifocus veterinary practice and provider of premier herd health and management services.

Alumni Award of Excellence honorees

Derek Eberhart (BSA – Poultry Science, ’86; MS – Poultry Science, ’91) is associate vice president for research and executive director of the UGA Innovation Gateway.

Michelle Samuel-Foo (MS — Agronomy, ’03; PhD — Entomology, ’08) is a national program leader for the Plant Protection Division of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture.

Carla Wennberg (BSA — Animal Science, ’81) is the head coach and instructor of the Equestrian Program at St. Andrews University in Laurinberg, North Carolina. Over 17 years, she has coached two teams to national championships in the Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association.

The Georgia Agricultural Hall of Fame

John C. Callaway Jr. (BSA – Animal Science, ’69) joined UGA Cooperative Extension in April 1970. In 1973 he became an Agriculture and Natural Resources Extension agent in Haralson County, a position he retired from in 1998.
