Meet the Experts

The UGA College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES) provides students with unique study abroad opportunities designed to offer life-changing international experiences.

As part of the Japan: Food Production, Culture and the Environment program, CAES students study abroad in Japan under the direction of Professor John Michael Gonzalez and Assistant Professor Kari K. Turner.

As part of this program, students learn about:

  • Sustainable practices implemented in Japanese agriculture;
  • Unique practices associated with beef, pork and poultry production in Japan;
  • Local sake, tea and rice production;
  • Traditional customs of Japanese food preparation;
  • And cultural significance of historical Japanese landmarks, temples and castles.

Follow along as students stay overnight at one of the county’s local farms.
