About

Dean Kopsell has served as Associate Dean for Academic & Faculty Affairs in the University of Georgia College of Agricultural & Environmental Sciences since February 2024.

Dr. Kopsell earned a B.S. in Agribusiness–Horticulture from Illinois State University in 1992, followed by an M.S. in 1995 and a Ph.D. in 1999 from the University of Georgia’s Department of Horticulture. Before returning to UGA, he chaired the Department of Environmental Horticulture at the University of Florida. He previously held faculty appointments at the University of Tennessee from 2004 to 2017 and the University of New Hampshire from 2000 to 2004.

A scholar in plant nutrition and the improvement of specialty horticultural crops, Dr. Kopsell has authored or co-authored 125 peer-reviewed journal articles, six book chapters, and more than 200 professional presentations. He also co-authored an online introductory horticulture textbook with his brother, Dave, which is now in its second edition.

Dr. Kopsell’s professional leadership includes service on the advisory council for the Foundation for Food & Agriculture Research and the board of the National Horticulture Foundation. He has also served as president and chair of the Board of Directors of the American Society for Horticultural Science.
