About

Michael Toews (Toews rhymes with Dave’s) received a B.S. from Fort Hays State University followed by an M.S. and Ph.D. from Oklahoma State University. After post-doctoral fellowships at Kansas State University and the USDA-Agricultural Research Service, he joined the faculty at the University of Georgia in 2006 as a research entomologist with responsibilities in applied insect ecology and cotton pest management. In subsequent years, Dr. Toews picked up Extension specialist responsibilities for stored product entomology, teaching responsibilities in graduate level insect ecology and Co-Director responsibilities at the Center for Invasive Species and Ecosystem Health. Dr. Toews transitioned into administration when appointed Assistant Dean-Tifton Campus from March 2020 through March 2025. Starting April 2025, he serves as the Associate Dean for Extension. In this position he leads an outstanding team of nearly 1000 people statewide that implement programming in 4-H youth development, family and consumer sciences, and agricultural and natural resources. The 2015 Southeastern Branch recipient of the Entomological Society of America Award for Excellence in Integrated Pest Management, Dr. Toews has served on 29 graduate student committees across 5 Universities, mentored 6 post docs, published 115 peer reviewed manuscripts, and secured $25 M in extramural grant funding.
